After seeing some cute brightly-colored pants here and here, I decided that I needed to make some yellow shorts. The trouble is, there weren’t any inexpensive thick cotton poplin or twill options in a nice color of yellow. I decided to just go with a quality Kona cotton.
The Kona was great – a lovely color and thick for a quilting cotton. But when I decided to add in some blue polka-dotted fabric as a cute pocket lining, it was a mistake. The Kona was sheer enough that those polka dots could be seen from the front and it just didn’t look great. So, I lined the front with a white muslin (or was it broadcloth?). Success!
And, so, using this basic tutorial to make the [girly] bermudas, plus a few buttons as accents, I had my finished shorts:
And what’s that behind? I decided to make the shorts a part of a cheerfully yellow set for a friend.
The top is a simple peasant top with sleeves made from the Monaco line. I really like the combo.

Hi Shelly! Thanks for your comment/tip! I don't know why I hadn't thought of looking online.
By the way, this yellow outfit is totally cute! I love the sleeve fabric!
